Anna Hazare
Bollywood has once again in support of Anna Hazare and criticized the government for arresting him.

Bipasha Basu vents her anger on social networking site, she tweets, "Anna Hazare needs to be supported to kill the 'Demon' called 'Corruption' that is eating up our Country

Anupam Kher is sad on Anna's arrest, he tweets, " Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal arrested even before they reach JP park. Saddest day for Indian Democracy."

Shabana Azmi tweets,``We condemn the arrest of Anna Hazare and his team and the ban on the proposed fast. Right to protest peacefully is a democratic right.''

Photographer Atul Kasbekar too tweets, ``You may not agree with Anna ideology or his methods. That's fine. But you cannot take away his right to peaceful protest.''

Farhan Akhtar who always been vocal about his political views tweets,``The Indian citizen has the right to protest peacefully. Anna's arrest is unconstitutional and shows symptoms of an authoritarian mindset.''

The government apparently has arrested Anna Hazare fearing violence. But director Shekhar Kapur says,``There was no threat of violence, there was none last time. People are thronging to Delhi to support agitation against corruption.''

Vishal Dadlani tweets, "They've arrested Anna Hazare. Bad move, Government. BIG mistake! You've made yourselves look dictatorial, and Anna, even more of a martyr! Presenting Anna's draft to parliament is the right course forward, and his arrest is very wrong. Joining the protest at Azad Maidan today."

Javed Akhtar tweets, "I have had certain reservations about Anna's method but his arrest can not be condoned. It is undemocratic ,unacceptable."

Minissha Lamba writes, " Happy I-Day India! Gr8 goin by ARRESTING #AnnaHazare.. Show d world how ready we r 2be a superpower! India NOT Shining "

ayesha_takia.jpg
The actress was all for fashion on Day 1 of the Lakme Fashion Week.

Ayesha Takia who was down with flu still came all the way to watch her designer friend Archana Kocchar's show on day one of the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.

Ayesha was accompanied by her mother and sister. Clad in a black anarkali designed by Kocchar, the actress stayed away from making any comments on Anna's crusade against corruption.

"I would not like to make any political statement" was her reply as she refrained from making any comments on the issue.

The actress who did look a tad weak due to the fever seems to have mellowed down.

We remember Ayesha had lashed out at Raj Thackeray and his party, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), for attacking her father in law Abu Azmi in the Maharashtra legislature for taking his oath as a legislator in Hindi about a year back.

Guess the actress didn't want to leave any room for any kind of 'political' controversy this time around!

Meanwhile 'Fashion' actor Arjan Bajwa revealed he will be going on a candle march today evening to support Anna Hazare.

salman khan.jpg
Everyone wants a part of Salman Khan. After all, the actor is known to give success after success these days. And Karan Johar is more than keen to work with the Khan.

It can be remembered that Karan Johar tried very hard - and pulled every string he posiibly could - to get Salman on his show 'Koffee with Karan'. Apparently, Salman Khan was not easily persuaded or convinced and remained faraway from both - the coffee and Karan.

Now, Karan Johar, we hear has managed to get Salman to sign on the dotted line for a film he's producing. To be directed by Rensil D'Silva, Salman, we hear, has given a nod to the project and KJo couldn't be happier.

In fact, if sources are to be believed, he's recommending many directors that they sign Salman in the lead roles if they are looking at commercial profits. Wonder how well will this act of KJo's go down with Shah Rukh Khan, who ultimately isn't a part of Karan's 'Student of the Year' film!

Bans, protests and a long weekend may have affected the business of director Prakash Jha's new offering Aarakshan, but despite all the problems, the movie about caste-based reservations in the Indian education system has managed to earn Rs 25 crore in four days. Trade analysts are hoping this will pick up in the second week.

Released on Friday, the film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Manoj Bajpayee and Deepika Padukone, is described as a well-crafted film on the need for education. The film was said to be made for Rs 42 crore.

"The occupancy stayed around 60-70 per cent. The film did not release in Uttar Pradesh. The response in Delhi was average. On Saturday-Sunday cops had stopped the screening of the film in Gurgaon due to security issues, so it did affect the business," said a source from PVR Cinemas.

Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (Cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, said: The response to the film was not as good as we expected. We were expecting that the occupancy would be 100 percent as it was a long weekend but the occupancy has been 70 to 80 per cent. It might be because most of the people went on vacation. The film is likely to pick up in the second week."

Prakash Jha had anticipated losses when the film was banned in three states -- Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh for fear of anti-Dalit comments in the movie.

Though the ban was lifted in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday and in Punjab on Monday, it is still on in Uttar Pradesh, which has the maximum Hindi speaking audience.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file its reply by Thursday to filmmaker Prakash Jha's petition seeking a stay of the ban.

"The film did not release in Uttar Pradesh as a result there was a 50 per cent drop in our business," said Puneet Sahay, senior manager for programming and operations at Spice Cinemas, Noida.

"We were running old films and it's occupancy was also around 25 per cent. We were looking upto Aarakshan as it was a long weekend but due to the ban we have indeed suffered losses."

Kangana Ranaut is playing her cards safe; she is no more a disturbed girl in her films. After playing a vivacious small-town girl in Tanu Weds Manu, she will be seen doing comedy in Sanjay Dutt’s first production Rascals. Not only has Kangana acquired a well-shaped body, she is looking bustier then before in Rascals promo, which also stars Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt

The trailer shows her in a sexy bikini, wearing glares, followed by assistants, and one couldn’t stop raving about her better assets. The actress, who was pencil-thin, has indeed worked on her lithe frame. But many are of the view that it’s a gift from doc rather than God. Earlier, Kangana is believed to have gone under the knife for fuller lips, which were quite prominent in her films Raaz 2 and then Tanu Weds Manu. The actress blamed her pouty lips on a sea-food allergy while others thought it’s a bee-sting.

The movie also stars the handsome Arjun Rampal in a cameo role, while Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt play the rascals. The movie was supposed to release in July but was delayed. Director David Dhawan was supposed to do Partner 2 first but because of the unavailability of dates of the actors involved with that film he started working on Rascals.

It seems all is not well in Sanjay Dutt's paradise. Sanju's 22-year-old daughter Trishala, from his first wife Richa Sharma, has expressed her desire to join films to her actor father.

But Dutt is not keen about the prospect at all.

According to a source, Sanjay is not comfortable with her daughter's decision.

It's not their family tradition, neither his sisters nor his niece have joined the industry.Trishala has studied forensic science, and Sanju feels it's a great career option.

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor may or may not be in good terms with each other but the actress has always maintained that she will never do away with 'RK' tattoo that is inked on her nape.

Deepika had also said that her current beau Siddhartha Mallya has no problem with it. But it seems the actress is now not anymore in mood to keep the tattoo. Deepika is going to erase the symbol of love RK tattoo, inked on her nape.

1. Shilpa Shetty

Top 10 Hottest Legs in Bollywood
What can we say about the woman who holds the top spot in the list? Shilpa Shetty is the Goddess of hotness. Irrespective of her Big Brother controversy or involvement with Rajasthan Royals, our attention has always been loyal to Shilpa's hot-bod, esp. her tiny waist and long legs. Her legs have always remained shapely and sexy unlike her nose which needed a lot of fixing.

Reel life meets real life once again in Ram Gopal Varma’s Not A Love Story and actor Mahie Gill, who’s portraying Maria Susairaj, is wondrous about the interest the film has generated. “Little do they know how difficult it was for me to play a character inspired from a real life person (in her case, Maria Susairaj),” she says.

The actress, who grabbed eyeballs with her portrayal of Paro in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D, says about her role in Not A Love Story, “This was the toughest role I’ve played till date — it drained me mentally. The initial bit was easy since I too have been a struggling actor in Mumbai but eventually, when there’s one man in the house and the other man knocking at the door or when the couple make out, with the dead body in the other room or even the interrogation scene — these have been really taxing,” she recollects.

But Mahie is all praise for her director. “We finished shooting in just 22 days and I was amazed to see how soft-spoken and shy a person Ramu is,” she informs.

Not A Love Story and Timanghsu Dhulia’s Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster has Mahie shedding all inhibitions in lovemaking scenes. “It’s been quite awkward, but I’m glad that my directors shot these scenes aesthetically. In fact, both these films have realistic approaches and the roles actually needed the intimacy. Timangshu gave me enough time to get comfortable with Randeep (Hooda) and we shot these scenes towards the end of the schedule whereas in Not A Love Story, Deepak (Dobriyal) and I shot for it right on the first day,” she says, adding, “My trust in the director is the deciding factor in such cases — it’s not something I would do for every other film of mine.”

The actress feels she has matured over the years and the same reflects in her acting. “It also helps to have co-actors of the caliber of Naseeruddin Shah and Irrfan Khan (in Michael and Paan Singh Tomar respectively), who are so talented,” she states.

Mahie, who has been tagged as the thinking man’s actor, wants to break free though. “I’m burdened with a tag and am yearning to break free — I want a role that needs me to get dressed, put make-up, dance and sing,” she wishes.

Theatres in Punjab will Monday screen Prakash Jha's "Aarakshan", which deals with the issue of caste-based reservations, after the government announced it was lifting the ban on the film.

"We have deleted the scenes and dialogues to which the state government committee had objections. These portions have been submitted to the state government and will not be shown. The rest of the film will be screened in theatres across Punjab," an official of a multiplex at Zirakpur, near Chandigarh, said Monday.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had Sunday cleared the file, revoking the ban on the film across the state, officials said.

The ban was revoked after Prakash Jha Productions agreed to delete the objectionable scenes and dialogues following a letter by Punjab's principal secretary (home).

A high-level committee set up by the Punjab government to preview the movie had Friday recommended revocation of the ban in the state if the film producer agreed to make certain changes.

The committee said the film contained some dialogues and scenes that could provoke the emotions of certain communities, especially those from the weaker sections of society.

"This may prove to be a disturbing factor in society, especially in Punjab where more than 31 percent of the 2.77 crore population belongs to the weaker sections, including the Scheduled Castes," the panel said.

The committee even listed the positive aspects of the film.

"The committee felt that the movie has depicted the educational backwardness of the Dalits, which can be addressed in a positive manner and the same is well brought out," its report said.

"The movie focuses on the bane of commercialisation of education. It has clearly brought out the message that the educational system needs to be improved for the uplift of the Dalits."

A spokesperson of the committee said: "Since the overall message of the movie is positive, the committee feels that the movie may be released in Punjab after making the amendments as suggested."

The government imposed a ban on the film Thursday following intelligence reports that it could lead to social disturbance.

"Aarakshan" stars Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.

With moist eyes and prayers, Shammi Kapoor's family members and friends bid goodbye to the veteran actor at his funeral at the Ban Ganga cremation ground here Monday morning.

The 79-year-old actor, who was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, Aug 7, breathed his last Sunday morning after suffering kidney failure.

Shammi's body was brought to the cremation ground around 10.30 in the morning and the last rites were performed by his son, Aditya Raj Kapoor, who was wearing his father’s beads around his neck. The late actor’s brother, Shashi Kapoor, who is himself unwell, attended the cremation on a wheelchair.

His nephews Randhir and Rishi Kapoor and his grandnephew Ranbir were also present for the last rites.

Apart from the family, many Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Prakash Jha, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ketan Desai, Satish Kaushik, Subhash Ghai, Jug Mundhra, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Yash Chopra, Nikhil Advani and Sudhir Mishra also came to the cremation ground.

Danny Denzongpa, Ranjeet, Fardeen Khan, Vinod Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Tom Alter, Shatrughan Sinha, Tinu Anand and Kabir Bedi were also there.

Among the actress who came for the funeral were Priyanka Chopra and Madhuri Dixit.

Stringent security measures were taken and the entire area was full of police personnel.

Katrina Kaif's decision to do two Yash Raj Films (YRF) with the warring Khans - Salman and Shah Rukh - has raised eyebrows, but the actress is unperturbed and argues there are no camps in Bollywood.

Katrina is set to start shooting with Salman Khan for Ek Tha Tiger next week and her film with Shah Rukh, which is veteran direcor Yash Chopra's untitled venture, is expected to go on floors in a few months' time.

"There is a problem, there is a misconception that the media has (that there is a camp system). We all have different equations. Friendly, not so friendly, but everyone respects everyone's individuality. There are really no camps or something like that," Katrina told IANS in an interview.

New York was Katrina's first film with YRF and after that she signed their Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and now the two films with the two Khans.

Glimpses of Katrina's rock star look in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, where she will be seen puffing a bidi and strumming a guitar in tattered jeans and a tee, have created ripples of excitement among her followers. And the actress explains her new avatar as her endevaour to offer something fresh in each film to avoid being boringly predictable.

"Small things make the difference. You are doing two films a year. Even if you are showing something, which is a little different from the previous film, then the audience doesn't get bored," said the 27-year-old, who has been part of the industry for eight years now.

"If I can do 15 percent better or add on something with every film, then people would not bear the impression that I am not putting in my hard work."

The directorial debut of Ali Abbas Zafar, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is a romantic comedy where Imran Khan and Pakistani singer-turned-actor Ali Zafar play leads opposite her.

The recent favourite of the YRF banner, Katrina believes that Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is the right film to collaborate with Imran.

"It's a romantic comedy, very exaggerated tongue-n-cheek kind. It's a little bit larger than life, louder like my film Aajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. For Imran and me, it was a very new space. We didn't know each other much and there had to be a fine-tuning, which eventually helped us to get into the characters that we are playing. It was a nice first film for both of us to do together," said the actress, who has so far made a successful on-screen jodi with Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor.

She revealed that the film has a close resemblance to filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1975 classic comedy Chupke Chupke that boasts of amazing performances by Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Asrani and Om Prakash. "It's on the line of Dharamji's Chupke Chupke," said Katrina.

To bring reality to her character, Katrina learned to play guitar and her knowledge about the instrument helped her portray the character of a rock singer more convincingly in the film.

"I am learning the guitar. For an actor it's really easy to be a rock star. Wear some boots, wear some jeans, wear kajal, dishevel your hair, hold a guitar and strum the strings. I can actually hold the guitar right as I know how to play it," said Katrina.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is set to hit the theatres on September 9.

Actress Katrina Kaif is upset with a report that she cancelled the shoot for Yash Raj Films' "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" because her favourite make-up man Subhash was unavailable as he had booked his dates for Anushka Sharma.

Katrina, 27, said people should not pull her down by writing such false stories and should give her respect considering her contribution to the industry.

"That was something really disheartening. I am not that kind of person who ever stood up and says, 'Look what I have done, look at me' or asked for any kind of respect or recognition or walked around with any kind of ego.

"But when I see people stoop down to that level and write these kind of stories, that's the only time I feel that I am not asking for recognition, but a little bit of respect after these years I have worked in the industry. Please don't pull me down to this level," Katrina told.

The actress entered Bollywood in 2003 with "Boom". Though her debut film was not a hit, she went on to deliver hits like "Namastey London", "Singh Is Kinng", "Race" and "Raajneeti".

Releasing Sep 9, the directorial debut of Ali Abbas Zafar, "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" is a comedy where Katrina is teamed up with Imran Khan and Pakistani singer-turned-actor Ali Zafar.

The current favourite of YRF, Katrina, will be also seen in their "Ek Tha Tiger" opposite Salman Khan and Yash Chopra's next undeclared directorial venture opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan. She has teamed up with Anushka in the latter.

"Anushka is a lovely girl, starting off her career now," she said.

Arjun Kapoor
Ranveer Singh has competition. His 'close pal' Anushka seems to be bonding with debutant Arjun Kapoor these days

If the recent developments are any indication, it looks as if a new 'friendship' is blossoming in B-Town. We're talking about Anushka Sharma and veteran filmmaker Boney Kapoor's son Arjun.

In fact, there's a strong buzz that she may be cast as his heroine in his debut movie, a Yash Raj production, given that she herself is an YRF protege.

Needless to say, Ranveer Singh may have cause for concern over his kabhi on/kabhi off girlfriend's special bond with her newest pal.

The two apparently couldn't be kept apart at a recent dinner.

Says a source connected with the studio, "Even though Aditya Chopra, Habib Faisal (director of Arjun's debut film Virus Diwan) and a few other friends were present at this outing, Arjun and Anushka were chatting and laughing as if they've know each other for years."

He further informs that the two young actors were introduced to each other by Faisal.

"Habib was involved in the writing of Band Baaja Baarat, so Anushka knows him well.

Arjun has also become very friendly with him since he is directing Virus Diwan. So he's like a catalyst in their friendship, " explains our source, adding that even otherwise, the two actors connect regularly over the phone.

So where does that leave Ranveer Singh?

Our source tells us that he would be only too glad if Chopra casts a new girl opposite Arjun in Virus Diwan.

He elaborates, "That's also because some girls have already been screen-tested for the part.

But if Aditya and Habib aren't too impressed with them, it won't be surprising if they cast Anushka opposite Arjun in their new movie."

Habib declined to comment on the casting. While he conceded that he's making a film with YRF, he maintained that it was for the studio major to make the official announcement.

Some are busy changing nappies, others are preparing to welcome their first child: motherhood is the buzzword in tinseltown!

While Aishwarya Rai and Lara Dutta are in the family way, Konkona Sen Sharma, Mandira Bedi and Preeti Jhangiani are relishing playing hands-on moms to their newborns.

The much-awaited news of Aishwarya's pregnancy was broken to the fans and film fraternity by her father-in-law, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, in June.

The Bachchan household was overjoyed with the news - with papa-to-be Abhishek thanking everyone for their "love, support and blessings".

In a recent interview, Abhishek said: "I want a daughter who will look like Aishwarya".

Meanwhile, work has taken a backseat for Aishwarya, who was been replaced by Kareena Kapoor in Madhur Bhandarkar's ambitious project "Heroine".

Lara, who married tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi in February, is the latest to confirm her pregnancy.

"We are excited about the baby," tweeted Lara, who had tied the knot in a church wedding in Goa amid close family and friends.

In the meantime, it's celebrity mothers like actress-turned-TV host Mandira, Preeti and Konkona, who are making the most of the joys of motherhood.

Married to filmmaker Raj Kaushal, Mandira had a son on July 17, after 12 years of marriage. They are proud parents of a baby boy, whom they have named Vir.

The excited father had taken to Twitter to share his joy. He posted: "Ladies and gentlemen..the czar of our lives Mr Vir Kaushal has arrived," while Mandira wrote: "And here starts an exciting new chapter of my life! "

Preeti and her husband, Parveen Dabbas, who are gearing up for the release of their debut production and direction venture "Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande", respectively, also joined the list of new celebrity parents with the birth of their son in April.

Another celebrity couple sharing parental responsibilities these days are Konkona and Ranvir Shorey. Within six months of their marriage, Konkona gave birth to baby boy Haroon in March. They were in a relationship for over three years, and solemnised their wedding in a low-key, private ceremony.

The stork also visited other Bollywood celebrities in the first half of this year!

Actor Manoj Bajpayee's wife, Neha (real name Shabana Raza) had a daughter in February. They named her Ava Nayla. It was the "most memorable day" for Manoj, who will soon be seen in Prakash Jha's "Aarakshan".

"It is the most memorable day for me and my wife. First time, I am getting the happiness of fatherhood and also the feeling of responsibility.

First time, I am getting emotional about how life will turn," the actor had posted on his blog.

Actor-filmmaker Sohail Khan became father for the second time with wife Seema giving birth to a second son June 16. Their older son Nirvaan is 10 years old.

Sitarist and composer Anoushka Shankar also became mother of son Zubin Shankar Wright in February. She is married to British director Joe Wright.

Already Bollywood has had a string of yummy mummies like Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Sonali Bendre, Kajol, Twinkle Khanna and "Munni" girl Malaika Arora Khan. Hope the new bandwagon of mothers in tinseltown keep the trend going!

Is she upset over Salman's decision to rope in Katrina for a song in 'Bodyguard'?

Katrina Kaif might be the reigning item queen of Bollywood, but Kareeena Kapoor's not the one to feel cornered in her own film.

Apparently when Kareena got to know about this much hyped song shoot with Salman and Katrina, she stepped up and demanded a hotter number.

A source says, "When both Kareena and Katrina's songs will be released, there is definitely going to be comparison between the two. So Kareena wants to be prepared.

The song 'Teri meri prem kahani' that has been shot over the past few days in three different locations is one of the sexiest songs Kareena has ever shot and she wanted it to be that way."

The song is quintessentially Bollywood as it gets the heroine dancing under the rain in a translucent sari. Interestingly, Teri Meri Prem Kahani is the theme track of the film.

And though it's hardly an item number, there are portions of the song, which have now been designed to look like one.

This is the first time Kat and Bebo's professional rivalry is out in the open, though the two A-listers have always been pitted against each other in some way or the other.

According to a source, "Apparently Salman's decision to rope in Katrina for a song in Bodyguard did not go down well with Kareena from the very beginning.

Even on Katrina's birthday, she dropped in to meet Salman only after Bebo left the scene." Both Kareena and Katrina denied the story.

Geeta Basra took off to London to tend to cricketer beau Harbhajan Singh It's said that love makes the world go round.

So it's no surprise to hear of someone going half-way around the world for the sake ofher beloved. Starlet Geeta Basra is believed to have flown down to London to tend to beau Harbhajan Singh.

Harbhajan, who's a part of the team at the ongoing England-India test matches, has been asked to rest due to a stomach muscle pull.

It's another thing that after she landed in London on Saturday, came the news that the off-spinner has been dropped from the team for the Twenty20 match and One-Day International series.

A source says that Geeta seemed worried for Bhajji's health before deciding to take the flight.

"She was worried, so she decided to head to London to tend to him. Even otherwise, he was disturbed about his form in the ongoing tour. And the muscle pull only worsened the matters for him."

The source also said that Geeta's presence should cheer Bhajji up.

"Being dropped from the sole T20 match and the ODI series must have further distressed Bhajji. So while he recovers from the stress, Geeta will be around to take care of him."

Reportedly, the Indian team manager, Anirudh Chaudhary had said that Bhajji and Yuvraj Singh, who's also down with a fractured left index finger, will be coming home shortly.

However, Geeta Basra denied the story saying she was in Dubai. Nonetheless, our source stood by the story, asserting, "Late Friday evening, Geeta told a couple of her friends that she was going to London."

Now, it remains to be seen if Geeta will be accompanying Bhajji on his return or will the two lovebirds opt to fly back home separately?

But Salman helped her out, tells a source from the sets.

In fact, it was Salman, who blew the whistle for Katrina in the song. The two continue to share a warm relationship despite parting from each other.
