With A-list babes no longer afraid to shake their booty to item songs, the original dancers are feeling the pinch If it's not Munni, it is Shelia who is making it her profession to dance all the way to the bank, never mind the girls she's putting out of a job in the bargain. Item girls, defined as dancers who do the one-off raunchy number in a movie, are now finding their craft being 'craftily' stolen from right under their noses. And sadly, there's nothing they can do about it. B-Town's creme de la creme actresses taking on item songs are rocking it and how! Here's what the original dancing queens have to say... Yana Gupta I think it is not about who the original item girl is or who is an actress. It is about who can do justice to the song. So whoever doesn't the job best, should get to play the item girl. The actresses who are playing Munni or Sheila or any other item girl may be doing a good job, but that does not been other performers can't. After all, the item girls have made their mark because they have the skill to perform. Gauhar Khan Performing on stage is a different high for different actors, and I think that they are doing a great job with the item numbers, be it Katrina or any other actress. Yes, there was a time when only a certain set of girls could play the item girl. For those who may have lost out on work because of this, I guess it's not great news. I think the more the merrier. Sambhavna Seth Item girls are a breed. No one can replace them. In fact, a lot of these heroines should thank us item girls for this opportunity they are getting to show off their dancing because of an item number. But that does not mean item girls are less in demand. We still get work. Mink Not everyone can dance and be an item girl. When people would call me specifically for a song, I would feel very proud because I would be adding that oomph element to the film. These days, every actress wants to be an item girl or dance to one. In a way, it's great because it is becoming a mandate in every film, but that does not mean all of them are doing justice to it. On second thought, why go without any underwear at all? Surely it's not that hot! Or perhaps, for those who have been out of the public eye for long, it's the low-cost-airline-flight to making headlines. It catapulted Yaana Gupta to national-conversation status just before her dance show began, remember?
Bollywood seems to have acquired its own set of Lindsay Lohans and Paris Hiltons. On Wednesday, Preeti Jhangiani was in town to promote her debut film as producer, "Sahi Dhandhe, Galat Bande", with hubby Parvin Dabas, and was caught by the shutterbugs in the... err... compromising pose. While it may have been an inadvertent mistake, Preeti's name has now been added to the list of B-town ladies caught without their essentials.
It was Shamita Shetty who was first snapped bare at a public function, but it's Yaana's recent 'pantygate' at a charity event that generated maximum buzz. However, Yaana handled it all sportingly and even made jokes about being the 'no-panty girl' on her networking site and interviews. Soon after, actresses Neetu Chandra and Sonali Bendre were caught in the same situation, but both denied the oversight. However, contrary reports had suggested that when photographers told Sonali of her faux pas while sitting like that in a car, she had quipped, "I'm happy that you saw it all". Are we now? Not really!

The Bhatts have triggered off a war between Yana Gupta and Jacqueline Fernandez. Zara Kareeb Se, an item song that was picturised on Gupta for Murder 2 is now being aired starring Fernandez and co-star Emraan Hashmi.
Interestingly, when the song first got a face lift, director Mohit Suri had reportedly said Gupta's song was "too gory" to be shown on television. Now the explanation for her absence has changed.
"I didn't want to disclose villain Prashant Narayanan's identity before the film's release and Yana was shown dancing with the villain, " said Suri.
Sources say the truth is simpler. "Jacqueline is the new blue-eyed Bhatt girl. She has already been signed on for Raaz 3 and will probably be acting in Murder 3 too. Yana got left in the cold."
Gupta, however, sounded stoic, when asked about the episode.
"Of course I would have loved for my version to be aired. I hope it will be at some point. But it's not my song, you know. It's just a job. I give it my best shot and what happens to it later, I leave to God."
