Arnold Schwarzenegger's son has been released from hospital.

Christopher Schwarzenegger - the 13-year-old son of the former Governor of California and his estranged spouse Maria Shriver - had been in intensive care after suffering a collapsed lung, broken bones and broken ribs in a boogie boarding accident in Malibu last Sunday but his mother has now confirmed he was allowed home last night.

Maria tweeted: "Blessed to be able to take Christopher out of the hospital last night. What a feeling of relief knowing that he's going to be fine."

Arnold also took to his twitter page to thank the efforts of medical staff involved in treating his son.

He posted: "I knew Christopher couldn't be stopped! Big thanks to all the doctors, nurses & staff at UCLA that helped him recover."

The 'Terminator' star had earlier thanked fans for their support and well-wishes.

He wrote: "Thanks for all your support for Christopher. It means a lot to me & to him. He's doing much better & we'll have him back at full speed soon."

Maria and Arnold - who split shortly before it was revealed he had fathered a 13-year-old child with their former housekeeper - have three other kids, Katherine, 21, Christina, 19 and Patrick, 17.

LOS ANGELES - The 13-year-old son of former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his estranged wife, Maria Shriver, was injured in a beach accident days ago, leading to a "very scary week" for the family, they said in a statement on Friday.

The statement gave few details of the mishap involving Christopher Schwarzenegger, the youngest of the couple's four children, nor did it say how badly he was hurt.

But the celebrity news website TMZ.com reported the youth was severely injured when hit by a large wave while surfing or boogie-boarding last weekend in Malibu, suffering multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung.

According to TMZ, the boy initially was hospitalized in intensive care, but his condition has since been upgraded.

His parents said their son is expected to make a full recovery.

"While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends," the couple's statement said.

"We want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly, as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us."

Shriver filed for divorce from Schwarzenegger on July 1, weeks after the Austrian-born former bodybuilder and film star publicly admitted to fathering a child out of wedlock with a member of the family's household staff more than a decade earlier. Schwarzenegger and Shriver had separated in May.

Shriver, a daughter of the Kennedy political dynasty, gave up her career as a network television journalist when she became California's first lady at the start of Schwarzenegger's two terms as governor. She has requested spousal support and joint custody of all their children.
Schwarzenegger's attorney filed court papers on Wednesday seeking suspension of court-ordered spousal support to Shriver and requesting that she pay her own legal fees, according to legal documents obtained by Reuters.

Two of Christopher's siblings, Katherine, 21, and Patrick, 17, posted messages of support for their younger brother on Twitter on Friday.

"This kid is strongest kid I ever seen (sic). Keep praying," wrote Patrick, while Katherine wrote: "He's a tough little guy and getting better!"

Arnold Schwarzenegger has filed his response to Maria Shriver's divorce petition - asking a judge to terminate her spousal support request.

In court documents filed yesterday by Schwarzenegger's lawyer, Bob Kaufman checked the box asking the judge to refuse Shriver spousal support.

In her original filing, Shriver asked for spousal support in her petition.

The papers also show that 63-year-old Schwarzenegger - like Maria - is asking for joint custody of the couple's two minor children Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13.

Shriver, 55, is asking Schwarzenegger to pay for her attorney's fees, according to the papers.
But Schwarzenegger's response asks that the judge make each party foot the bill for their respective lawyers.

The couple are said to have not entered into a prenuptial agreement a the time of the marriage so under California law both parties are entitled to a 50/50 split of all earnings and property accumulated during their 25-year marriage.

The former couple is estimated to be worth around $400 million (around £250 million).
The former TV journalist is said to be spending at least $10 million of that fortune on  a luxury home three miles away.

While Schwarzenegger is clearly eager to repair the damage done to his relationship with his children in the wake of the love child scandal.

At the time of the drama, Patrick tweeted that he was dropping his father's last name in favour of his mother's surname.

He may not be in his oldest son's good graces, but he did enjoy a day out with daughter Christina, who turns 20 this month, on July 8.

His eldest daughter, 21-year-old Katherine, seems like she will eventually forgive her father for his infidelity, as well.

'This is definitely not easy but I appreciate your love and support as i begin to heal and move forward in life. I will always love my family!' she tweeted on May 17.

The Terminator star has also reached out to his love child, 13-year-old Joseph, with housekeeper Mildred Baena; the two reportedly visited Arnold at his Brentwood mansion.

The former California Governor and his ex may not be playing nicely on paper, but in real life they're trying to be as amiable as possible: they reunited at Brentwood restaurant Toscana on July 15 for a mutual friend's birthday.
